Heisman Trophy 2008 Dinner

Gino Torretta - Analyst 

Gino Torretta was the most celebrated football player in the University of Miami and NCAA history.  A 1991 graduate with a degree in Business Management, Torretta won both athletic and academic awards during his prolific career as a Hurricane.

He became only the second player in Hurricane history to win the coveted Heisman Trophy Award as the nation’s top collegiate football player. He was also honored as the Walter Camp Football Foundation’s Player of the Year.

The Associated Press, Kodak, Walter Camp and The Football News named Torretta first-team All-American. He also won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, The Maxwell Trophy and the Davey O’Brien national quarterback awards.  

Torretta was a unanimous selection as BIG EAST Offensive Player of the year for two consecutive seasons, the NCAA Today’s Top Six Award winner, Toyota Leadership Award winner and Chevrolet Offensive Player of the Year.

Torretta finished his Miami career with eleven school passing records, including career attempts (991), completions (555), yards (7,690), total offense (7,772), longest pass (99 yards to Horace Copeland vs. Arkansas, an NCAA record) and most passing yards in a game (485 vs. San Diego State).

He was tapped into Iron Arrow, as one of the University’s best ambassadors.  He has also been inducted into the Orange Bowl Hall of Honor and the University of Miami Hall of Fame.

Originally from Pinole, California, Gino and his wife Bernadette reside in Miami. In 2006 he founded Touchdown Radio, nationally broadcasting a college football game of the week.  He is also  the Manager of Institutional Sales with Gabelli Asset Management. 

Torretta has been a color commentator for collegiate and professional football games, and is currently a host on the South Eastern College Football Today Show on CSS.  Among his charitable works, he hosts the Gino Torretta Celebrity Blue Tee Weekend benefiting The Torretta Foundation, which aims to find a cure for ALS and Myasthenia Gravis. 

He is also a Past-President of the National University of Miami Alumni Association, a member of the Orange Bowl Committee, and in 2008 was inducted into the University of Miami’s Ring of Honor. It was announced on April 30, 2009, that Gino Torretta has been selected for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Frank Frangie - Play-by-Play 

Frank brings a wealth of experience to the Touchdown Radio team as a 27-Year member of the sports media covering a variety of sports as a member of the print, radio broadcast and television broadcast mediums.


Frangie is in his 17th year as the primary afternoon drive sports talk radio host in Jacksonville, Fl. now on the 50,000 watt all sports 1010XL, the city's highest rated station.  Frank has earned the title of Jacksonville's Most Popular sports talk show host 9 times in those 17 years according to Folio Weekly.


In addition to returning for his third season as the play-by-play voice of the Toucdown Radio Game-of-the-Week, Frank hosts College Kickoff - a nationally syndicated college football preview television show.


Frangie is a Jacksonville native and a 1980 graduate of the University of Florida. 



Roxy Bernstein - Play-by-Play/Sideline Analyst

Returning for his 3rd season on the Touchdown Radio Network, Roxy's multi-sport experience brings a unique and exciting style to each game.  A veteran play-by-play broadcaster, Roxy has been the broadcast voice for University of California, Golden Bears men's basketball on the ISP Sports/Cal Basketball Radio Network since 1997.

In addition to his passion for NCAA Football, Bernstein has shown his versatility providing radio and television play-by-play for Major League Baseball, National Hockey League, National Football League and NCAA Basketball teams.

Roxy currently hosts The Randy Bennett Radio Show, a weekly broadcast which features St. Mary's College of California men's basketball coach Randy Bennett.

 
 
Jon Bloom - Sideline Analyst

The Public Address announcer, backup play by play broadcaster and radio host for the NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals hails from the San Francisco Bay Area and made stops in New York and Michigan before making his way to the valley of the sun. Along with working for the Cardinals, Jon serves as a play by play voice and sideline reporter on Touchdown Radio’s national broadcasts of the College Football Game of the Week. He is also currently the host of the Phoenix Suns pregame and postgame shows as well as his own weekly sports radio show on Sports 620 KTAR in Phoenix, the flagship station for the Cardinals, Suns, Diamondbacks and Arizona State University. Jon graduated from Syracuse University with a major in Broadcast Journalism in 1997. While at S.U. he served as the sports director of what is widely considered the top student-run radio station in the country and called the action of Syracuse football, basketball and lacrosse as well as minor league baseball for the Houston Astros single-A affiliate in Auburn, NY.

After graduation, he was hired by Sportsradio 1130 The Fan in Detroit, where he served as an Anchor/Reporter/Host for six years. In addition to covering the Lions, Red Wings, Tigers, and Michigan and Michigan State, Jon was a host of the Pistons pregame, halftime and postgame shows and handled the play by play duties for Oakland University basketball and Wayne State University football.

During the winter and spring Jon works for CBS Sports’ coverage of the PGA Tour at several stops throughout the year including The Masters & Pebble Beach, and serves as a golf analyst for Fox Sports.com and ABC 15 in Phoenix. He also handles voice over work and production for marketing and public relation firms both in Phoenix and Detroit. Jon and his wife Jill moved to Scottsdale in November of 2003. They had their first baby, a little girl named Marlee in July of 2006, and their 2nd daughter Anya was born in January of 2009.
