Heisman Update Week 13With Oklahomas 65-21 destruction of Texas Tech I believe
Sam Bradford has an ever so slight lead over
Colt McCoy in Heisman race. You could make a case for either guy and be quite credible but when you factor in overall play I think Bradford gets a slight nod with the stunning numbers hes put up. The candidacies of
Graham Harrell and
Michael Crabtree were hurt terribly by the prime time thrashing and although it should not completely override their stellar accomplishments this year you have to think such a public spectacle was a fatal blow to their chances of being the winner of the hardware in Downtown New York.
Beyond those four the other possible invitees to the ceremony next month include:
Tim Tebow (Florida),
Javon Ringer (Michigan Street),
Shonn Greene (Iowa),
Donald Brown (UConn),
Jeremy Maclin (Missouri),
Rey Maulaluga (USC),
Dez Bryant (Oklahoma State) and
Zac Robinson (Oklahoma State).

Touchdown Radio crew ( Frank Frangie, Ed Murphy, Chuck Ezell, John Carney, Jim Carney and myself) was in freezing Champaign, Illinois for
Ohio States 30-20 victory over
Illinois. The Buckeyes ran for nearly 300 yards and took one more step to at least a share of a fourth straight Big Ten title. Chris Wells and Terrelle Pryor were stellar in toting the rock for 250 yards between them. While those two didnt look very cold I assure you I was as the airlines left my luggage in Atlanta and I was reminded again of why schools like
Miami, Florida, FSU, USC, Texas, etc have such a recruiting advantage over the northern schools. I didnt see much sunscreen being applied in Champaign. As the population migration of this country continues to move southward and westward its more and more likely the power conferences will be the SEC, Big 12 and Pac 10.
Having now seen super-recruit Terrelle Pryor twice I can see why schools were so excited by his potential. Hes got excellent speed and while he doesnt run with power hes explosive when he gets in the open field. Right now hes throwing the ball a little late (and getting his receivers creamed) but hes not making the big mistake and with time and experience he should turn into another superstar dual threat quarterback.
This was a week where all the contending teams held serve against their opponents and as such #1
Alabama and #2
Texas Tech are still the teams in control of their own destiny. The Tide wasnt overly impressive early on in their win over
Mississippi State but at this point of the season when youre one of only two undefeated teams in the discussion style points arent quite as important. On the other hand the Red Raiders spent their off week preparing for their showdown with #5
Oklahoma. A Tech win would eliminate the Sooners from the title hunt but a Sooner win would send the title race into pure chaos.
